SWIMMING PIGS & NEW YACHTS: DISCOVERING THE BAHAMAS

YPI Charter prides itself on having some of the most experienced and knowledgeable retail brokers working in the superyacht industry today. That’s why it sends its charter brokers to test destinations and yachts all over the world before recommending them to any clients. Most recently, top retail charter broker Nicolas Benazeth was sent to the Bahamas to try out some new charter yachts and sample some of the activities available in the area.

“The potential of the Bahamas as a charter destination is all too often overlooked,” explains Nicolas. “This vast cruising area -within easy reach of both Europe and the Americas - offers some of the most pristine tropical environments and an incredible range of experiences. But because it is still relatively unknown as a yachting destination, and with the specific nature of its environment, first-hand knowledge is essential to get the most out of a Bahamas charter. I’m glad to say that now I will be able to pass this knowledge on to clients.”

Known as ‘Fam Trips’, this type of initiative allows YPI retail charter brokers the opportunity to get firsthand experience of several yachts and different destinations.

“The brokers are treated just like charter guests,” explains Head of YPI Charter, Fiona Maureso. “That allows them to judge the service of the staff, sample the chef’s culinary talents and explore the various activities that each destination has to offer. It gives our brokers the ‘added value’ of being able to make informed recommendations to our clients based on personal and, importantly, recent experience.”

Yachts chartering in the Bahamas need to have specific features such as a shallow draft, good tenders and a captain familiar with the cruising area.

The following yachts all have the Nicolas seal of approval:

YPI YACHTS POPULAR AT GENOA 2011

For the past 23 years, YPI has showcased some of the finest yachts from its charter fleet at the MYBA Show in Genoa. This year was no exception with three stunning yachts on show: SOFICO, GLAZE and recent winner at the World Superyacht Awards: MARY-JEAN II.

All three yachts enjoyed a steady stream of visits from the charter professionals attending the show. “It’s great for our yacht owners” says Fiona Maureso, Head of YPI Charter. “Once our colleague brokers have seen our yachts for themselves, it is so much easier for them to recommend our yachts to their own clients.”

“The crews really come together to demonstrate how they keep the yachts in great shape,” explains YPI charter manager, Jacqueline Leigh. “The pace at the Show can be just as hectic as when they are on charter with guests. It’s a great indicator of what they can do. We hosted two dinners onboard MARY-JEAN II to showcase the skills of her award-winning chef, and the crew were amazing. We have had nothing but rave reviews.”

YPI charter manager, Carine Zanotti now has several charters in negotiation as a direct result of the showing the YPI yachts at the Show. “We will definitely continue to encourage our owners to take part in this Show,” she smiles. “It’s the best place to present yachts for charter to a high concentration of yacht charter professionals.”

As the Genoa Charter Show is only open to industry professionals, we thought you should have your own personal YPI Charter Guide to the yachts on show:
