YPI CELEBRATES THREE LANDMARK ANNIVERSARIES

Why 2012 is already a record-breaking ‘YPI year’ The first quarter of 2012 has started just short of matching the record-breaking sales numbers of 2011 with 51 sales recorded at an average Asking Price of EUR 7.9m per yacht representing a jump in price of almost 20% on Q1 last year. The average size of yachts sold this quarter is 36m, an increase of just 3% on 2011. Entirely right then that the year YPI CEO Bertrand Vogèle has marked as the buyers’ last chance to ‘steal’ quality yachts off the market (see the new edition of The YPI Selection) should also be the year YPI celebrates some other record-breaking events.

“We have started 2012 as we would like to start every year,” explains Bertrand, “by selling a number of yachts for some good clients, growing our charter fleet with a record number of new yachts available for charter and celebrating no less than three anniversaries.”

As well as being the 40th Anniversary of YPI, 2012 marks the 10th Anniversary of YPI Crew and the first anniversary of YPI’s newest and rapidly expanding venture, YPI Asia.

YPI Crew was launched back in 2002,” explains founding director Laurence Reymann. “I can’t believe how fast time as flown by and how much we have achieved.”

Starting with just two people, YPI Crew now runs with a team of seven specialist recruitment consultants who, over the last three years in particular, have been delivering the best results in the company’s already impressive history.

“It’s about getting results for clients,” explains Laurence, “particularly when owners are wanting to run their yachts more efficiently and cost-effectively than ever before. We provide a thorough and experienced service that means our clients, yacht owners and captains, only get to see the cream of the candidates available for the positions they have on offer. That saves money, time and heartache.”

‘Getting results’ is a thread that runs throughout YPI’s development over the last 40 years. “We had a simple philosophy,” recalls company co-founder and former chairman Alex Braden, “only work with clients we could get on with and make sure we always provided them with the results they needed...and then a bit more.”

Now celebrating its first full year in business and the opening of no less than three offices in some of the most strategic locations in China, YPI Asia has been loyal to that same philosophy. “We have a five year plan for YPI Asia,” explains Bertrand, “and I’m pleased to say that so far we are well on track.”

YPI Asia was launched at last year’s Hainan Rendez-Vous, China’s leading luxury lifestyle Show, to better serve YPI’s Asian clients, both existing and new.

“We are the only western full-service brokerage house to have such a strong presence in this market,” says YPI Asia MD, Olivier Besson. “The secret is my Chinese team who know and understand the clients, their needs and demands much better than any foreigner. Being part of Monaco-based YPI gives us access to the sort of know-how and expertise in superyachting that quite simply does not exist here today.”

 

So how will YPI be marking this record-breaking year of anniversaries?

“We are planning some anniversary events for clients and industry to take place this summer and nearer to our actual birthday on 2nd September,” says YPI Head of Marketing & Communications, Mark Duncan. “We have two special editions of our ‘YPI Selection’ magazine which look back at how YPI, and indeed superyachting, has grown and changed over the last 40 years and there will be a few nice surprises along the way.”

However the company chooses to celebrate its landmark year, one thing is certain: it is the company’s reputation for getting results that has guarded its long-standing success for the last 40 years - success gained as a result of working with clients who benefit enough from YPI service to keep coming back for more as well as recommending it to others.

The fact that YPI is now able to celebrate 40 years at the top of its industry is testament in no small part to the loyalty and faith of its clients and for that, all the teams at YPI remain forever thankful.
