Over the last 40-years YPI has acquired a well-earned reputation for handling some of the industry’s sailing giants including the likes of METEOR, WINDROSE, GALAXIA and ATHOS. Now another record-breaking YPI yacht is making the news.
RAINBOW – ‘Best Sailing Yacht’ @ World Superyacht Awards 2013
40m J-Class RAINBOW has received the recognition she deserves with yacht owners and industry voting her ‘Best Sailing Yacht’ in the 39 metre+ size range at this year’s World Superyacht Awards in Turkey.
“It has been almost 80 years since the iconic J-Class and America’s Cup Winner of 1934, RAINBOW, first sailed. It is a fitting tribute that her cutting edge replica, one of the most eagerly awaited yachts of last year and one of the most technologically advanced, now picks up the award,” says YPI Head of Sailing, William Bishop.
Speaking about her win, the WSA judges had this to say about RAINBOW:
“After study of the five yachts in this class – one modern classic, two fast cruising yachts, one motor sailer and oneperformance-oriented yacht, all of which had been visited by judges – the J-Class RAINBOW became the focus of their close attention. Constructed for an experienced yachtsman, Rainbow was built to the lines plan of the
yacht of the same name that beat ENDEAVOUR in the 1934 America’s Cup, a shallow yacht with low internal volume. This tested the designers to the limit, but they nevertheless created a beautiful yacht with an efficient deck layout and good accommodation for the owner, guests and crew. Extremely well built, she is a worthy winner.”
RAINBOW was built by Holland Jachtbouw with optimised designs by Dykstra & Partners, Naval Architects, based on the original design by William Starling Burgess.
SHAMOUN – ‘Best Sailing Yacht in Show’ @ Singapore Yacht Show 2013
On the other side of the world, the 34m Dutch-built, modern-classic SHAMOUN, available for charter in south east Asia through YPI Charter, picked up the award for ‘Best Sailing Yacht in Show’ during this year’s Singapore Yacht Show.
“We were pleased to be at the Singapore Yacht Show
this year,” says YPI Director of Sales, Russell Crump
. “The region is an important one for us and SHAMOUN attracted a lot of interest. It was great to see her voted the Best Sailing Yacht in Show.
She is a very unique sloop with an excellent keel arrangement that allows her to enter shallow water anchorages other yachts her size could not even dream of attempting. She’s in great shape with a fantastic crew led by Captain David – an excellent yacht for chartering.”
SHAMOUN is chartering this summer in South East Asia.
