EXCELLENT FEEDBACK TO THE FIRST OF A NEW SERIES OF FREE YPI APPS

Launched at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, the first of a new series of Apps from Yachting Partners International (YPI) is now available for free download for tablet and smart phone from both the Apple and Google Play Stores.

One of the first to embrace the QR Code technology to give clients easier and faster access to yacht videos, yacht profiles as well as the company’s entire mobile website content, YPI has now launched the first of a new series of fully interactive Apps available for download for tablets and smart phones from both the Apple and Google Play Stores.

 

             

 
“At the end of last year, research was showing there were over 1.2 billion people using Apps,” explains Group Marketing Manager, Mark Duncan. “This year alone there will be an estimated 56 billion downloads with more than 800,000 apps available right now on both the Apple and Google Play Stores. And it’s a market that’s slated to continue growing by almost 30% every year…most of that growth originating from Asia. To be frank, well over a third of those downloads are games. Only around 4% relate in any way to lifestyle. Whilst we have been watching the market and Apps as a tool for a couple of years now, its only this year that we really started to see just how many of our clients were not only using Apps, as opposed to mobile web, but asking us why we weren’t using the technology to help present their yachts and the world of yachting generally to a much wider market.”
 
“We looked to see what was already available and realised yachting was not particularly strongly represented,” says YPI Digital Strategy Manager, Olivier Palayan. “We didn’t want to go down the ‘private app’ route where only certain people were allowed to see and enjoy the content, so we decided to launch our first fully publicly available App with a range of extra user functions and tools.”
 
Says YPI Group CEO, Philippe Hetland Brault: “For me, any App has to be 50% useful and 50% fun. And it shouldn’t just be for iPad. We wanted users on all tablets and particularly smart phones to be able to access and benefit from our App in a way that makes sense to the device they are using. So with THE YPI SELECTION App, we invested a bit more to design and produce variations that give the user the optimum experience whether on tablet or smartphone, Android or Apple. It’s our first App, we are very pleased with the feedback so far, and we have only just begun. We are now developing a number of other functions, thanks to some excellent feedback from clients, and I very much look forward to announcing the launch of those in the not-too-distant future.”

YPI teamed up with Progressive Customer Publishing (PCP) who already design the company’s successful client brochure ‘The YPI SELECTION’ to create the fully interactive App version.

Due to the diverse geographical spread of clients, not to mention their tendency to be travelling often, we needed to ensure all devices had connectivity and an excellent user experience, as well as making it available on both iOS and Android platforms.”
 
The App version of The YPI SELECTION combines the diverse content of the print brochure with exciting app-specific functions such as:

  • Latest insights on crew and Superyacht management

“The demand and need for printed material still remains surprisingly,” says Mark Duncan. “But ‘info-on-the-go’ is vital and it is exciting to see the new lease of life the App now gives to some of the content and stunning photography we have of our clients’ yachts and worldwide charter destinations. It frees up so much of our material giving the user a much more fun and informative experience than anything else we have done before.”
