MAKING YOUR PRIVACY OUR PRIORITYClients charter luxury private yachts for different reasons, but the unique, underlying reward for almost all is having the privacy and freedom to be able to spend quality time with family or friends, away from the crowds. YPI Charter Agents are skilled in helping put that unique experience together for you
Trying anything for the first time can be as daunting as it is exciting. The good news is, thousands of luxury yacht charter guests have taken that first step. To help get you started, the YPI Charter team have compiled this selection of frequently asked questions from many of our first-time charterers. We hope it helps get you started on one of the most rewarding journeys of your lifetime.
Q. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHARTERING A YACHT AND GOING ON A CRUISE?
A. With private yacht charter, the only people on board are you, your invited guests and the yacht’s own crew, there to serve you throughout your stay. Where the yacht cruises and stops, what you eat (and when!) and how you spend your days – is entirely up to you. Please note: at sea, most private yachts cruise with a maximum of 12 guests in accordance with International Maritime Regulations. For larger groups, ask for details.
Q. WHERE ARE THE CHARTER YACHTS?
A. Charter yachts are privately-owned luxury vessels, let out for charter by their owners. As such, they are available for guests in some of the most exclusive, sought-after destinations around the world – the Caribbean, French and Italian Rivieras, Dalmatian Coast, the Greek Islands, and many other equally stunning locations.
When there, your captain and crew can take you to places cruise ships and one-day holiday rentals can never reach. It is your chance to explore the oceans and the bays, the towns and the islands, the nature and the culture few outside of yachting ever have the opportunity of enjoying.
Q. DO I NEED TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT YACHTS?
A. No. All charter yachts come with the owner’s own experienced Captain, crew and chefs who will not only introduce you to all the facilities onboard (ranging from sundecks to cinemas, Jacuzzis® to gymnasiums, saunas to water sports equipment, jet-skis to submarines) but will also prepare personalised fivestar menus using fresh ingredients and in accordance with your tastes and preferences. They will stock up on your preferred wines and beverages and share their own inside knowledge of the best places and locations to visit. Simply tell your YPI Charter Agent the type of holiday you want for a personalised selection of yachts and destinations to match.
Q. HOW LONG CAN THE CHARTER LAST?
A. Private yachts can be chartered for a few days to a few months – it just depends on availability. And the further ahead of time you book, the more likely you are to benefit from availability on your preferred yacht.
Q. CAN WE BRING CHILDREN? ARE PETS ALLOWED?
A. Whilst some yachts specify that a professional carer be employed by guests, most yachts do welcome children and many have plenty of activities for all ages. Your YPI Charter Agent can recommend the best suited yachts for you. Many yachts also cater for guests with special needs – ask your YPI Charter Agent for a selection.
For health and safety reasons pets are generally not allowed onboard but do ask your YPI Charter Agent about yachts that make exceptions.
Q. WHAT WILL MY YPI CHARTER BROKER DO FOR ME?
A. Charter Agents perform a similar role to that of your normal luxury travel agent. Long-standing members of MYBA, the Worldwide Yachting Association that defines and maintains the industry’s standards worldwide, YPI Charter Agents are specialists in the business of luxury charter. They have exclusive access to the industry’s private database of over 1,400 reputable luxury charter yachts. They monitor all the best charter yachts keeping track of any changes to the vessels or their crew, the yacht availability and, of course, where owners intend to place them for the upcoming season. Skilled at choosing destinations for all types of holiday,
YPI Charter Agents can also create personalized itineraries so you get to see and experience all the history, culture, nature and water activities wherever you decide to go. Based on the type of holiday you would prefer, your YPI Charter Agent will put together a selection of yachts to suit your requirements. Once you have chosen the yacht you prefer and decided where and when you want to go, they will draw up the paperwork to secure your booking. They will clearly lay out the all-inclusive price for your charter including the yacht, crew and details on applicable VAT charges, as well as your APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance), which includes such things as the food and drink you order, fuel you use, any expected berthing costs or delivery fees and incidentals relative to your itinerary. Equally, if you want any extra insurance, they can help.
Once your booking is confirmed, they handle your preferences for food and drink provisioning, liaising with the crew to make sure everything you want is stocked onboard and the chef is well briefed on the type of cuisine you most want to enjoy. Should you have any special requirements regarding diet, childcare, decor or even interpreter needs, they will advise the crew and they can help arrange your travel to and from the yacht.
Thereafter it is just a question of having the time of your life. If, for any reason, you find something missing once you are onboard, the Captain and your YPI Charter Agent work together to ensure your expectations are not just met, but exceeded.
