  YPI CELEBRATES THREE LANDMARK ANNIVERSARIES

  Why 2012 is already a record-breaking ‘YPI year’   The first quarter of 2012 has started just short of matching the record-breaking sales numbers of 2011 with 51 sales recorded at an average Asking Price of EUR 7.9m per yacht representing a jump in price of almost 20% on Q1 last year. The average size of yachts sold this quarter is 36m, an increase of just 3% on 2011. Entirely right then that the year YPI CEO Bertrand Vogèle has marked as the buyers’ last chance to ‘steal’ quality yachts off the market (see the new edition of The YPI Selection) should also be the year YPI celebrates some other record-breaking events.

  ITALIAN YACHT TAX: the final decision on who pays

  We recorded in our last issue the Italian Government’s announcement that it was to re-introduce a tax known as “imposta di stazionamento” or 'berthing tax’, which was to be applied to yachts berthed in Italian ports and marinas as well as yachts cruising, anchored or docked within 12-miles of the Italian coast. It was due to come into effect as of 1st May 2012, was to apply to all vessels over 10 metres in length irrespective of flag and carried charges ranging from EUR 5 to EUR 703 per day depending on the vessel’s size. Sanctions for non-payment were potentially as much as 200-300% of the initial amount due.
