Abu Dhabi Yacht Show 2010: Day Two

Latest News from Abu Dhabi brought to you by YPI in association with Synfo.com

By Ellie Brade

Day Two of the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show dawned sunny once again.  Today was busier, with more footfall than Thursday, and exhibitors commenting on increased activity and inquiries.

Here is some of the news from today's show.

Abu Dhabi Yacht Show 2010

Soraya Yachts are getting excited about the launch of their first yacht, the Soraya 46 (pictured below), this year, which the yard claim will be the first fully IP equipped yacht.  Her design is very clean, with all toys and tenders hidden out of sight to remove all clutter from her decks.  It includes a front deck with a helicopter pad that rises up from the deck when needed to allow access to toys, and also provide crew with an area to relax out of sight of owners and guests. Emphasis has also been place on noise reduction within the yacht, with insulation incorporated to ensure a peaceful surrounding for all on board.  The yard are aiming to have the boat complete in time for an appearance at Monaco, with her launch due in the late summer.  She has been built on spec and the yacht is available for sale.

Also near to launch is the 38m Danish Yachts Dayboat.  Jonathan McDonnell, of Danish Yachts, commented that “she is progressing well and on target weightwise.”  She is predicted reach a target speed of 51knots on completion, hence the strict control over her weight. Good use has been made of lightweight materials in her build, which ensure that she is as efficient as possible for her size.

Hakvoort, who have a stand at ADYS ( pictured above) for the first time, also have launches on the horizon (as recently reported on Synfo).  Albert Hakvoort Jr told Synfo that Hull Hull 245 is due for launch imminently, but is still being held back by the icy conditions in Holland.  Hull 243, Pretty Woman, is on hold temporarily due to economy-related problems being had by the owner, but she will likely launch in a few months and deliver to her owner as planned.  Hull 246 will replace 245 upon her launch, and also on the horizon is Hull 247, the hull and superstructure of which is currently being completed at the Made Shipyard.

Launches seem to have been the theme of the day with Amels telling us that they have two launches on the horizon – an Amels 177 and a Amels 171.  We will cover both these launches in more details at a later date, pending photographic images from the yard.  Pictured below is a model of the recent launch, the Sea Axe, built by Damen.

Yard 37, based in Hobsonville, New Zealand, are experiencing their first boat show with Abu Dhabi and have positive comments about the show.  The yard are developing a Superyacht dedicated precinct in New Zealand, with a 20ha that has been designed for Superyacht manufacturers and refit service providers with 80,000 m2 of marine shed space.  This investment is one demonstration of New Zealand’s commitment to developing the country as a superyachting destination.

Finally, Alastair Callender, of Callender Yacht Designs, also exhibiting for the first time and showcasing his green superyacht design, Soliliquy, at the show has had a busy day.  Callender commented that “We’ve been very busy with lots of interest so far this week.  The collaboration with Jensen Interiors has really added to the overall concept.”  With this innovative design being much lauded in the press over the last year hopefully a buyer will be forthcoming at the show.
