A Porquerolles Stop-Over
What could be more magical than a yacht charter around Porquerolles Island? It’s one of the lesser known islands off the popular Cote d’Azur but Porquerolles Island - also known as one of the Iles d’Or – should definitely feature on any Mediterranean yacht charter itinerary.
The largest of three islands which make up the Iles d'Hyères archipelago, Porquerolles Island lies off the Var coast between Toulon and Saint-Tropez, approximately a 20 minute boat trip away from the hectic bustle of the French Riviera. Shaped liked a bow and measuring seven kilometers long, the island is characterized by stunning white sandy beaches, maritime pine forests, and encircled by crystal clear waters which lend themselves to swimming.

Luxury yacht charter guests will soon realize that on Porquerolles, time stands still. The only community on the island is a village of the same name, located on the northern coast, which is reminiscent of French seaside resorts a hundred years ago. Here, the few locals who live peacefully on the island gather to play a game of pétanque under the bright shining sun in front of a curious audience of tourists.
Venture into the interior of the island and you will perhaps find the reason why these locals are so content to stay: more than 200 hectares of vineyards which produce some wonderful tasting wines. Stop at any number of small shops which line the port and stock up for your luxury yacht charter.
The vines are believed to have been planted by a Monsieur Fournier in the early 20th century after he bought the island for his wife. Wine from the highly-acclaimed vineyard were amongst the first to be classed as ‘Vins des Cotes de Provence’ and today there are three vineyards all producing excellent wines.
The majority of the island was bought by the French Government in 1971 in order to protect the small piece of paradise from over-development. The purchase has been hugely affective, with the island maintaining much of its natural beauty. Yacht charter (http://www.ypigroup.com/yacht-charter/index.htm) guests can enjoy a host of activities on the island, from hiking to horse-riding, diving and snorkeling. The island also boasts a number of excellent restaurants, perhaps the most notable of them all being the four-star Mas du Langostier, which is definitely recommended as a place to eat during a luxury yacht charter.
