Discover Sardinia on your Luxury Yacht Charter

The Italian island of Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean, next to Sicily. But where Sardinia loses out to its larger neighbour in size, it more than makes up for in terms of beauty, sophistication and glamour.

For the island of Sardinia is one of the most stunning destinations in Europe, if not the world. Here you will find mile upon mile of white sandy beaches that look more akin to those in the tropics.

But unlike the tropics, the culture, architecture and gastronomy of Sardinia is typically and most definitely Italian. It’s a winning combination, as proved by its position as one of the leading destinations for Mediterranean yacht charter.

Sardinia is actually located closer to Africa than it is to Italy, which perhaps explains its tropic-esque beaches and balmy weather, both imperative ingredients for an unforgettable luxury yacht charter.

Legend has it that Sardinia was created by God when he stepped on it with his sandal — it was called ‘Sandalyon’ by the ancient Greeks and Phoenicians – and the island certainly has a feel of Paradise about it.

The coastline of almost 2000km is indented by tiny coves and picturesque harbors, just waiting to be explored by your luxury yacht charter.

Perhaps the most famous area of the island is the Costa Smeralda – or Emerald Coast – which became popular with the jet-set after Prince Karim Aga Khan IV dropped anchor here during a storm in the mid 1960s.

At the heart of the Costa Smerald is Porto Cervo, which is Sardinia’s answer to Saint Tropez. Porto Cervo has grown from a small seaside village to arguably the coolest and most chic resort on the island, where the likes of Roman Abramovich can be seen on any one of his super yachts.

Sardinia is also surrounded by a number of other islets which make ideal sailing ground for a Mediterranean yacht charter. Sant’Antioco and San Pietro lie off the coast of south-western Sardinia, while off the east coast is the Arcipelago di la Maddalena. This island has its own national park and is well worth a visit.
