A Guide to Provencal Markets on the French Riviera
Strolling around the intricately knitted stalls at a traditional French market is a highlight for most visitors staying on the Cote d’Azur.

Bartering over trinkets and tasting Mediterranean delicacies under a Provencal sun as you smell the freshly baked baguettes, and bunches of lavender that waft through the town on market day is, for many, what sets a French holiday apart.
So no super yacht charter would be complete without at least one stop at a French market to pick up some mouth-watering local produce, or merely soak up the atmosphere.
Here is our guide to markets not to be missed on a super yacht charter on the Cote d’Azur:
The Flower Market in Nice should be a prerequisite for all super yacht charters in the Mediterranean. Get up early and marvel at the beautiful bouquets, fruit and vegetables on sale the length of the Cours Saleya, in Old Nice. The market is held every morning, except Monday when there is an antiques market in its place.
Just along the coast from Nice is the pretty town of Antibes, which boasts Europe’s largest marina. Anchor here and wander along to the Marché Provencal, a covered market just behind the Mairie. Here you will find a tantalizing display of fresh flowers, fruit, vegetables and cheese. The Foire clothing market, located just behind the post office, is a great place to come for clothes on a Thursday.
Another market not to be missed on a super yacht charter along the French Riviera is the Marché Forville, in the La Bocca quarter of Cannes. This market packed full of local produce is the thing to do on a Sunday morning when anchored in the Port of Cannes. Meanwhile, as in Nice, the market turns into a huge antiques fair on Mondays where some great bargains can be found.
Make sure your super yacht charter incorporates a weekend visit to Saint-Tropez, so you can catch the morning market on the Place des Lices. Alternatively, the market, which sells everything from cheese to leather handbags, is also held every Tuesday morning in this famous seaside port.
