Greece is the most developed of the Eastern Mediterranean yacht charter locations, offering all types of motor yachts and sailing yachts in multiple archipelagos. The Aegean island chain is within easy cruising distance of Athens, making it possible to combine a yacht charter itinerary with a land tour of the capital city.
The Ionian and Cyclades archipelagos each offer unique islands and landscapes, all filled with ancient traditions and ruins. To the east are the Dodecanese islands, which include the famous walled city on Rhodes. Yacht Charter in Turkey
Turkey bases its luxury yacht charter offerings along the tourist-friendly southwest coast, with itineraries most readily available between the port cities of Bodrum and Goçek.
Modern motoryachts and sailing yachts are available here, as are traditional motorsailers known as gulets—which are beloved for their slow, stable cruising style. A typical week of yacht charter in Turkey can include haggling for leather goods and handmade rugs in the local bazaars, enjoying a refreshing swim in crystal-blue waters, and touring the ruins of ancient civilizations. In general, the historic sites in Turkey are less crowded than those in Greece, though often just as well preserved from the same period in human history.
Mediterranean Yacht Charters in Croatia
Croatia is the most recent Eastern Mediterranean nation to become a burgeoning hub of luxury yacht charter activity, with its islands within a day’s cruise of Venice, Italy.
Many of the islands remain untouched by developers, making Croatia an excellent yacht charter option for anyone interested in leaving civilization entirely behind. Of course, luxury charter yachts are available in Croatia with modern amenities such as WiFi and satellite television, so it is possible to remain in contact should the need arise in a secluded harbor.
In general, the yachts offered for charter in the Eastern Mediterranean are available at lower price points than those in the most popular regions of the Western Mediterranean. There are excellent values to be found with the help of a charter broker, especially in Turkey and Croatia during the summer shoulder-season months of May, June, September, and October.
