Below are ten facts and figures about the British Virgin Islands that help to explain its yacht charter success:
- Sixteen of the palm-fringed islands are inhabited, including Necker Island, owned by Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson.
- The largest island is Tortola, where most of the population of 23,000 live and work. The island offers a large range of water-based activities including scuba diving.
- The most popular island amongst the Hollywood jetset is Virgin Gorda, a beautiful island just eight and a half miles long. Here you will find tropical beaches galore, some excellent restaurants and exclusive five-star resorts. There are also a number of national parks to explore.
- Jost Van Dyke is the archipelago’s party island, where, it is claimed, you can also find the best lobster in the Caribbean. The coastline of the island is particularly beautiful, and hugely popular with super yacht charters.

- Anegada is an island of coral sand, where deserted palm-fringed beaches are found in abundance.
- One of the smaller islands – Norman Island – is believed to be the inspiration behind the famous book by Robert Louis Stephenson, Treasure Island.
- There are more than a dozen marinas in the British Virgin Island, with excellent facilities for yacht charter, most of which are on Tortola or Virgin Gorda.
- The British Virgin Islands are a UK Overseas Territory with a parliamentary government.
