Discover the Swedish archipelago along the country’s west coast and its 24,000 islands and islets that form a sailing playground for those on a Swedish yacht charter. Explore these islands at your leisure, visiting the region’s small fishing communities and deserted natural harbours. The country’s capital, Stockholm, is easily accessible and is likely to be the starting point of your yacht charter in Sweden.
Having listened to the advice of our most experienced captains and yacht charter crews, and taken on board the suggestions of many of our clients, YPI Group has put together a Sweden yacht charter itinerary that takes in the highlights of this destination. This itinerary is only a suggested route, and if you have favourite areas you would like to visit on your charter please ask your dedicated YPI Group charter broker, or charter yacht captain.
DAY 1: Stockholm
As the sun rises and the day begins, your yacht will depart from the beautiful city of Stockholm. After passing through the watergates and into the lake of Mälaren the first landfall will be the Royal Palace, Drottningholm. There you can explore the fantastic park and tour the palace. The yacht will then set sail for Björkö and the ancient, famous archaeological remains of Birka. After an guided tour, you can enjoy lunch at the site. In the afternoon the yacht will anchor close by so that you can dine on board and admire the lovely setting.
DAY 2: Stockholm - Mariefred
After breakfast the yacht will head slowly towards Mariefred, a small, charming town with a stunning castle and an extraordinary, popular inn called Gripsholms Värdshus, highly recommended for lunch. In the afternoon, you could head for Bro Hof, one of the best golf courses in the country, for a few hours of driving, pitching and putting before anchoring for the night.
DAY 3: Mariefred - Landsort
The Baltic Sea awaits us and you will now set sail for the saltwater archipelago. As you leave Mälaren you will pass through the watergates of Södertälje, south of Stockholm, stopping for lunch at Oaxen, a famous restaurant that has been richly awarded by food critics around the world. Then continue further south to a little picturesque town called Trosa for a brief visit before heading for Ankarudden, south of Nynäshamn. Here, you can visit one of the oldest lighthouses in the Baltic, Landsort, before anchoring for the night.
DAY 4: Landsort - Utö
Early departure from Landsort, heading for Utö, an old mining village on the edge of the Baltic. In the afternoon you can visit Bullerö, a beautiful nature reserve. And by the evening you will be in Sandhamn - the sailing metropolis of the Stockholm archipelago where you can enjoy dinner and evening festivities in the lively port.
DAY 5: Sandham
Spend the morning exploring Sandhamn, walking through the charming back streets of this tiny island village and enjoying the natural beauty of the peninsula. A range of other activities is also available, such as sunbathing and swimming, fishing, water skiing or scuba diving – whatever rocks your boat!
DAY 6: Sandhamn - Öregrund
In the morning, leave Sandhamn and head northwest to visit Öregrund, a small, unspoiled town in Roslagen. After lunch the yacht will head further north to the cultural and historical Grisslehamn where you can visit the museum and exhibition of the famous Swedish artist, Albert Engström.
DAY 7: Öregrund - Stockholm
Next morning it’s time to head south, back to Stockholm. The route wends its way through the most beautiful islands of Roslagen archipelago, offering a good chance of sighting eagles and seals. On the way back you can stop at Waxholm and enjoy a guided tour in the seventeen-century castle. Lunch can be on board or in one of the splendid summer restaurants nearby. In the early evening, you will arrive at your final destination – Stockholm – where you will disembark with a wealth of happy memories and, hopefully, the wish to return as soon as possible!
