Yachting Charter Cruises with a flexible itinerary

When a luxury yacht charter vacation is booked, the captain works with the yachts charters client to outline a general charter cruise itinerary. The yachting charter client decides where the beginning and ending points of the skippered charter will be, and the captain makes suggestions about interesting places to see and things to do along the route.

Onboard a chartered yacht, if the client changes his mind about what to do or where to go mid-week, then the captain will adjust the itinerary accordingly. There are some exceptions. In the Western Mediterranean, in particular, coveted marina slips in popular destinations such as Cannes and St. Tropez must be arranged weeks if not months before a yachting charter begins, so clients generally respect the charter cruise itinerary as outlined in advance. This is especially true during glitterati events such as the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival, when demand for marina slips is so intense that waiting lists are often generated. A similar need to respect the prearranged schedule is true for New Year’s Eve on St. Barth’s, where the premier marina slips also must be secured in advance of the yachting charters.

Beyond those locations and events, however, skippered charter itineraries are generally flexible between the vacation’s starting and ending ports. When cruising in a Southern Caribbean location such as the Grenadines, or in the Bahamas east of Florida, or in Eastern Mediterranean destinations including Turkey, yachts tend to spend their nights at anchor in quiet harbours as opposed to tied to the dock in marinas. There are no reservations to be kept, and no reason to rush from one harbour to another if the charter client is happy wherever the yacht is currently anchored. If a particular snorkelling spot captures the client’s imagination one afternoon, then a second and even third day of snorkelling can be arranged instead of cruising aboard the charter cruise to another location.

Many skippered charter yacht captains invite the primary cruise charter guest onto the yacht’s bridge each morning to look at the location charts, discuss weather patterns, and mull options for the day’s charter cruise and activities. If the entire yachts charters guests wants to be involved in the discussion, then the captain will bring the information to one of the guest areas, perhaps visiting the clients as they finish eating breakfast on the yacht’s aft deck. As long as there are no safety concerns, a yachting charter can generally change or adapt its itinerary however the charter guest desires, even if those desires change several times a day.
